Position Description

We are seeking for a Registered Nurse (RN) in a long-term care facility. It outlines the primary responsibilities, essential duties, required knowledge, skills, abilities, physical demands, and educational/experience qualifications for the role.

The RN's core function is to supervise the day-to-day nursing activities within the facility, ensuring adherence to all relevant federal, state, and local standards and regulations. This involves a broad range of tasks categorized under:

  • Administrative Functions: Assisting the Director of Nursing (DON) in daily operations, developing and maintaining policies, ensuring reference materials are current, and participating in quality assurance and facility surveys.
  • Committee Functions: Attending and contributing to various facility committees like Infection Control, Policy Advisory, and Quality Assessment.
  • Personnel Functions: Ensuring adequate staffing, developing work assignments, delegating responsibilities, monitoring staff performance, and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Nursing Care Functions: Overseeing resident admissions, transfers, and discharges, monitoring resident conditions, reviewing nurses' notes, providing direct care when necessary, and managing medication administration.
  • Staff Development: Participating in and organizing in-service training programs for nursing staff.
  • Safety and Sanitation: Assisting in developing and implementing safety standards, ensuring proper use of personal protective equipment, and maintaining clean and sanitary work environments.
  • Equipment and Supply Functions: Recommending equipment needs, ensuring adequate stock levels, and overseeing the safe operation of nursing equipment.
  • Care Plan and Assessment Functions: Participating in resident assessments, developing and reviewing care plans, and ensuring care plan adherence by staff.
  • Budget and Planning Functions: Staying informed about economic conditions and recommending adjustments to nursing services and equipment needs.

Key requirements for the position include:

  • A Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Training in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices.
  • 2 years or more of experience, preferably in a long-term care setting.
  • A current, unencumbered RN license in the state.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Proficiency in the English language, both spoken and written.
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and decision-making skills.
  • The ability to handle mental and emotional stress and work effectively with diverse individuals.
  • Physical capability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and assist in resident evacuation during emergencies.
